The young traveler: Ferdinand Bonaventura Harrach and his Grand Tour (1655-57)

Harrach's description of his sojourn in Paris in 1697/98 represents one of the sources underlying the ARCHITRAVE project. However, the imperial Great Master of the Stables had already been in Paris forty years earlier when he had studied in Dôle as part of his Grand Tour and visited Brussels and Paris. On the basis of the surviving letters in the family archives of Harrach himself and his tutor Nicolas Guyot, the contribution asked for characteristics of the reporting of this first trip to Paris. The focus is on the relation of travel purpose and the perceptual horizon of the young traveler.
